Regulation and government

VaporLinQ supports clear regulations in the product field of vaporizers, e-cigarettes and liquids. VaporLinQ is a member of the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association (TVECA) which is the trade association for e-cigarette producers, and has already taken part in consultations with the Dutch standards body NEN to work on standardization and regulation on Dutch and European levels.

The Dutch government is advised by various committees. The NEN is one of the committees that is working on standardizing this new industry. The NEN gives its conclusions and recommendations to the European Commission, and is represented through the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

As of May 2016, it is intended that vaporizers, e-cigarettes and liquids will be subject to the European Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). The TPD will be implemented within the EU. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States is also engaged in drafting legislation.

Among other things, this means that packaging must carry warning of the risks that using these products can incur. We support this. However, we do not support the suggested ban on marketing, because marketing is a means of reaching young people in particular and convincing them not to smoke, or otherwise switch from smoking to the much less harmful alternative: vaping.
